I recently had the privilege to meet an amazing family. They contacted me and asked if I would be able to do a memorial photo session with them on the beaches of Sanibel Florida. They lost their son Sam at a six years old from cancer. Sam was diagnosed with rhabdomyosaroma. He was better know as Superman Sam for reasons obvious of this brave young man. He was brave and lived his last days with courage as should we all. It is amazing what you learn from children that go through life trials as he.

This was a one of the most difficult sessions I have every photographed. I have a son the same age and couldn't imagine the grief that they must be going though. Many times during the session we hugged and cried together. Everyday I pray for them to have the strength to overcome the grief. Although I would never expect anyone to overcome such a loss. This blog is as a memorial for Sam. After spending my time with the family I feel like I know him. His twin sister Ava is a very brave and bright young lady. She has the strength that many of us only hope for.

Nikki & Matt - Married at Sundial Resort on Sanibel Island

Nikki and Matt came down from North Carolina to be married on the beaches of beautiful Sanibel Island on January 11, 2014. They choose Sundial Beach Resort as their wedding venue. The weather was fantastic and Nikki was beautiful. Friends and family gathered to watch the ceremony on the beach near sunset. They brought a band down with them from North Carolina that rocked the house! A special treat of artistic chocolates from Norman Love was enjoyed by all! Being wine lovers, they brought a hugh wine bottle for everyone to sign. Later they will bring it to a special winery of a friends to have the bottle filled.

The Sundial staff was wonderful and the dining room was beautiful. Nikki made many of the beautiful details of burlap cloth. The entire evening was wonderful and everyone had a great time. Congratulations Nikki and Matt!

An Intimate Beach Wedding - Sanibel Island Florida - Island Photography LLC

This intimate wedding was held on Bowman's Beach on Sanibel Island. It was a perfect day for their celebration. We had a lot of fun shooting this couple's photos after the ceremony! I really love what I do!

Heather & Danny - Beautiful Casa-Ybel Resort Sanibel Wedding!

I was privileged enough to be Heather and Danny's photographer for their December wedding at Casa Ybel Resort on Sanibel Island. It was a beautiful clear day. The wedding ceremony was on the beach in front of Casa Ybel at 4:45pm, just before sunset. You can see in the photos how much this couple is in love! We had a wonderful time with them and hope to see them back on Sanibel in the near future!

Workshop With Joel Grimes - Nantucket Mass

One thing I love about photography is that it is ever changing you can never know it all! I make it a point every year to attend the Wedding & Portrait Photographers International convention to become inspired and to learn from the best of the best. Earlier this year I met Joel Grimes at Photoshop World and spoke with him about his inspirations and his art. He later invited me to attend his workshop in Nantucket. I have heard him speak on numerous occasions and then he recently posted this:

"I find so much joy in exploring new ground, forging a path that is my own, and not a copy of someone else. Yes, I am influenced by others and relish in the work of those that have come before me. But when I look at myself as unique, one of a kind, with the ability to work from that uniqueness and develop something that is a reflection of my personal artistic vision, what a thrill!

Don’t be afraid to break new ground. Take risks in going down a path that fits you. Don’t listen to the naysayers that try to steal your uniqueness and discourage you from your artistic vision. You have a voice that can rock the world. " - Joel Grimes

It is so true! I consider my photography an art and I am the artist to be like no other. Wow! He really hit the nail on the head! Not only for photography but for living life itself!

During the workshop that I attended with 8 other professional photographers, I learned amazing techniques and Joel's philosophy. Once again I was inspired! The first was out on the sand dunes at the Great Point Lighthouse and then nearby marshes. It was an overcast day which was perfect! The second and third days were spent on the site of a Beautiful home. It was a perfect setting for portrait photography.

Amber & Jon's Sanibel Beach Wedding

Friday evening brought with it a perfect sunset to the beach of Sanibel Island! The water was a beautiful brunt orange and the sky appeared golden with translucent clouds in the foreground. This provided the perfect backdrop to Amber and Jon's intimate Sanibel beach wedding ceremony. Their two year old son did his part by walking Amber down to Jon which was just too sweet for words. It was a good time for everyone there. I wish all the best to Jon and Amber!

Ding Darling Morning - November 24th, 2012

I laid in my bed this morning knowing that the temperature outside was in the low 50's. It was far from the typical 75 degree mornings we have had over the last few months. Part of me didn't want to get up but I knew that the golden hour was coming and the tide was perfect for some great photography in the Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge.

I arrived at the gate around 7:05 unfortunately the golden hour was already in progress and I had to move quickly to get to my favorite spot. There were many White Pelicans with the usual gang of egrets stabbing at the shallow water with what appeared to be a smile on their faces. The steam was coming off the warm water which helped put together the image that I was looking for to define the morning.

I took a few shots of the local birds posing for my camera in ways that you would think that they were trained to do. I was shooting with my Nikon D300 with a 70 to 400mm and 1.4x tele convertor. I decided that this morning I was going to capture the true feel of santurary and put my 14 to 28mm on my Nikon D3S and took in the beauty of the bayou of birds and mist with the sunlit mangroves in the background.

Believe it or not the no-see-ums were relentless this morning. I had figured that it would be too cool for them and forthwent my usual body bath of bug spray to prevent their feast. I got into my car and moved to my next spot that was not my unusual favorite but this morning this shot was perfect! Although the shot was almost into the sun it still captured the mood of the morning.

On my way out I was surprised twice by otters that caught my eye but were too quick for me to get off a shot. Maybe next time!
